Ibanez cited for stamp

Ibanez: An inglorious end to a fine Test career?

Ibanez: An inglorious end to a fine Test career?

France captain Raphaėl Ibanez has been cited following an alleged stamping incident during Friday's World Cup defeat to Argentina at Parc des Princes.

The Wasps hooker has been reported by match citing commissioner Douglas Hunter.

He is alleged to have stamped on Argentina lock Rimas Įlvarez Kairelis during the Pumas' 34-10 victory in the Bronze Medal match.

The incident occured in the last five minutes of the first half as the French laid siege to the Argentine line, and the Pumas conceded six penalties in that time.

There would have been a seventh when Įlvarez Kairelis went over the ball in a tackle but Ibanez appeared to stamp on him repeatedly.

Įlvarez Kairelis needed attention and, while he was getting it, was shown a yellow card. The referee then showed Ibanez a yellow card.

The France captain made no effort to disguise his disgust at the decision, throwing his waterbottle in the direction of the touch judge, Nigel Owens who had reported Ibanez's action to referee Paul Honiss.

Ibanez played no further part in the game and this may well be the last act in his long and illustrious Test career.

The hearing will take place in Paris as soon as possible.
