Loffreda gets another gong
Loffreda: 'Un ciudadano ilustre'
Former Argentina coach Marcelo Loffreda has been named a 'Distinguished Citizen' of Buenos Aires by the city's parliament after leading the Pumas to the bronze medal at the World Cup.
Loffreda, who takes up his new role as head coach of Leicester Tigers in the next few days, was honoured after the historic third-place finish his side in France, achieved by recording a fine 34-10 win over the hosts in Paris.
Jorge Enriquez, a member of the city parliament, believes Loffreda would have been worthy of the accolade even without the World Cup feat due to his 11 titles with SIC.
"World Cup third-place is the same as winning the title, as rugby in our country has not been distinguished internationally, even though it has history in Argentina," Enriquez said.
"Beyond results, I can appreciate that in rugby the team is more important than each player. In rugby, there is respect to rules and referees too."
