Bai cited for high shot
Cited: Seremaia Bai
Fijian fly-half Seremaia Bai was cited on Monday for striking South African number eight Danie Rossouw in their World Cup quarter-final on Sunday, but the Springboks are still seething over numerous other cheap shots that went unpunished.
The International Rugby Board (IRB) confirmed on Monday that Bai has been cited by citing commissioner Peter Larter.
"The player and his team management have been informed and a hearing will take place in Paris as soon as reasonably practicable," the IRB statement said.
Bai contributed 10 points in Fiji's 20-37 loss to the Boks.
However, the South Africans were decidedly unhappy with Irish referee Alan Lewis, who failed to take action despite complaints from Bok captain John Smit.
Lewis yellow-carded Fijian inside centre Seru Rabeni for a high tackle in the second half, but there were several other incidents that warranted similar action - including the Bai head shot on Rossouw.
Rossouw was felled by a stiff arm behind the head and lock forward Victor Matfield was also the victim of some high tackles.
Rabeni was only sin-binned after a high tackle on Bok fly-half Butch James.
Springbok captain John Smit told the media in Paris that he had spoken to Lewis several times about Fiji's dangerous tackling.
"I also spoke to him about their players who kept using their hands in the rucks, but I did not really get any response from him," Smit said.
"I did receive support from the touch judges [New Zealanders Paul Honiss and Steve Walsh], but they could not become too involved."
