Italian pair wait in the wings

Italian coach Pierre Berbizier may be forced to give World Cup debuts to Matteo Pratichetti and Pablo Canavosio for their game against Portugal.

With several injuries plaguing his squad and his tendency towards a rotation policy it could well be that the two wingers make their World Cup bow.

Having watched the likes of Kaine Robertson and Marko Stanojevic in action in the opening two games both players are eager to show what they can do.

"When I was out, I wanted to eat my hands," said an effusive Canavosio.

"It's very frustrating to watch your team-mates from the tribune and not being able to do anything to help them. I'm fired up for it."

Running on will be just reward for Canavosio, who overcame a spate of injuries to take his place in the Italy squad.

"I'm coming back from a series of injuries but now I'm ready to play," he said.

"I want to give my best to help the team, run a lot and be wherever I'm needed."

Pratichetti, at 22 the youngest member of Italian squad, is hoping to start on the opposite wing.

"I'm excited and I really want to get on the field and show that I can be a part of the team at this level," he said.

"We should not under-estimate Portugal because they have a team that is physically strong."
