Italian centre Mirco Bergamasco has received a two-week ban for tripping Scotland's Dan Parks during the World Cup Pool C game in Saint Etienne last Saturday.

Bergamasco was cited for the foul play during Italy's 16-18 loss to Scotland, a result that eliminated his team and sent the Scots through to the quarter-finals against Argentina.

World Cup judicial officer Christopher Quinlan upheld the citing complaint - with the Stade Francais player, Bergamasco, suspended from October 8.

Bergamasco has 48 hours to appeal the decision.

Quinlan ruled that it was a deliberate trip intended to bring Parks down and the Scottish fly-half was slightly injured.

Because Italy has been knocked out of the World Cup, the suspension won't start until Bergamasco rejoins French club on October 8 and it will run until October 21.

World Cup suspensions:
* Otar Eloshvili, Georgia, seven weeks, spear tackle
* Paul Emerick, United States, five weeks, spear tackle
* Juan Severino Somoza, Portugal, four weeks, head-butting
* Brian Lima, Samoa, three weeks, high tackle
